Authorship and contributorship
Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association follows the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines for authorship.
Authorship requires that you have:
made significant contributions to the idea and design, or to the collection/analysis/interpretation of data
participated in the preparation of the manuscript itself, or in critical revision of the intellectual content of the article
approved the version of the article to be published
formally taken responsibility for all parts of the work that is published
All four criteria must be met. In addition, you as an author must be able to identify which specific parts of the work the co-authors are responsible for.
Contributors who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged. Note: The person being acknowledged should have given written consent to this to the author.
The authorship declaration form must be completed and signed by all authors.
In cases where there are multiple authors, the authors themselves determine the order of authorship. Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association allows for shared first authorship, which must be specified (‘The authors have contributed equally to the work on this article’).
Issues related to authorship
In some cases, conflicts or other issues related to authorship may arise. If the authors wish to remove or add an author after the manuscript has been submitted or published, the editorial staff will request a statement from all the authors. Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association also follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics when dealing with issues related to authorship.
