Data sharing

There is currently an ongoing international commitment to greater open and mutual exchange in research. The goal is a global research community where sharing of de-identified data becomes the norm. Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association wants to contribute to this goal. At the same time, we must consider the limitations inherent in sharing sensitive health information, and that development is still in its early stages.

Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association notes that as of 1 July 2018, authors submitting articles to journals that follow the recommendations from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) must include a data sharing statement.

Here in Norway, the Research Council of Norway has followed up on this and now requires research projects to consider whether a data management plan should be created. The Research Council of Norway encourages following the international FAIR principles for data management. FAIR stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Research data should therefore be retrievable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.

Journal of the Norwegian Psychological Association is committed to following the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors’ (ICMJE) recommendations for publishing scientific articles.

The manuscript must be accompanied by a statement indicating whether the data and protocol are available to anyone other than the authors. The statement must briefly explain:

  1. Whether the data and/or study protocol are available to others

  2. In what form they are available (e.g., raw data, summarised data, syntax from analyses)

  3. Who may have access, for what purposes, and who to contact, if applicable
